Scene one: An exuberant small child of 6 or 7 years

J: Hey there (name), how are you doing?

R: Hi Jesus! I’m doing great! Guess what? I learned a new song in Sunday school,

(sing) “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the bible tells me so…”

J: Wow! That’s great! What else have you been doing?

R: I joined a soccer team. I’m not very good but mom says I’ll improve. She always says stuff like that. My daddy’s working all the time, so he can’t come to my games. I wish he had more time for me Jesus; I miss being with him!

J: I know you do (name). he loves you very much. Please say “hello” to him for me. I haven’t spoken with him in a long time. I miss him too.

R: OK Jesus, I will.

J: Thanks. Always remember. I here for you, just call me. That song about me is true. I love you and will always be your strength. Just call my name.

R: Thanks Jesus. I’ll remember! I Love you. Bye now

J: Bye. We’ll talk at bedtime like we always do.

R: OK Jesus! See you then.

Scene Two: A busy teenager

J: Hi (name)

R: Oh…Hi Jesus!

J: How have you been (name)?

R: I’m doing great. Hey, can I talk to you later? I’m really busy right now. I’m on my way to a football game with my friends.

J: Sure (name). I miss you. It’s been so long since we’ve really talked. I see you in church, but we never hook up. You’re always on the go, doing stuff with your friends. So, how are things?

R: GREAT…I really do have to run…I’m just so busy…

J: How’s your heart?

R: OK. I’m making super grades, my parents are always working, but we take really cool vacations every year. I have lots of friends and the folks at church love me…things are great.

J: If you say so (name). I love you. I’m here if you need me; always have been, always will be.

R: Thanks. I love you too. Catch you later when there’s more time and my friends aren’t around. Bye…..

Scene Three: A Smug post-college student

J: Hi (name). How are you? I haven’t heard from you in such a long while.

R: I’m doing extremely well. I’m a stock broker now, you know. I’m making lots of money; I can buy anything I want.

J: Oh really

R: Yes, and I recently got married!

J: I know. I hear everything. Congratulations! I’m so happy for you and your new husband//wife. It would be great if the two of you would invite me into your home. I miss sharing with you and I would love for all of us to become close.

R: Sure. Sure. We’ll try to find the time, but we’re working so hard chasing our dream of wealth and status. Sunday is our special time together. You understand how it is….

J: Yes, I do. So, how’s your heart?

R: it’s fine, Jesus. Thanks for asking. Gotta run…

J: I understand perfectly. Don’t forget. I’m here for you (name). I love you.

R: See ya later. Bye

Scene four : A very sad forty year old.

J: (Jesus calls the person’s name three times before there is a response.)

R: Oh, it’s you again

J: You seem really sad. Please, tell me how you are.

R: I’m fine. What do you need?

J: I don’t need anything. I just wanted to say hello. I see your little boy is doing well in school. I wa stalking with him last night, and he was telling me how much he loves you. He knows that song we used to sing – you remember, (sing) “Jesus loves me this I know…”

R: His mother/father taught him, not me; I was too busy with my career. We’re divorced now.

J: I know; it was pretty tough on you. I’m so sorry you went through it alone. If only you’d have let me help. But your walls just got higher, my friend. You isolated yourself and shut out everyone who loves you.

R: (in an angry voice) What do you want? If it’s about giving more to the church, I already tithe. And I’m serving on the vestry too! What else do you want from me?

J: I just want to talk with you. How’s your heart?

R: (indignantly) Fine, Just fine.

J: If you ever want me to give you a new heart, all you have to do is ask. I’m here for you (name).

R: IT’S FINE! Is there anything else?

J: No. I love you…

R: Yeah, right…

Scene Five : A broken individual, somewhere in later age.

J: (Jesus calls the person by name at least three times before there is any verbal response)

R: (Head down) Who’s there?

J: it’s me, Jesus

R: Oh

J: You look pretty beat up there (name)

R: I guess I am

J: So, you lost your job?

R: (nod yes, but do not speak – keeping your head down)

J: I’m so very sorry my friend; I can feel your pain. Your job was your life. You had everything invested in your career.

R: Looks like I invested in the wrong things.

J: I see you’re still carrying your heart there. It’s not too late for me to take care of it. It’s never too late. I will give you a new heart. All you need to do is ask….

R: I know Jesus. But sometimes it’s just so hard to let go.

J: Trust me. I love you (name). I always have.

R: (After looking at Jesus for several seconds, you then exchange your orange for a new one.) I love you too, Jesus. Thank you.

(Stand and embrace each other)

The End.
