Confession Circle
Students form a circle with arms around each others shoulders in an appropriate manner. Leader says:
Part of realizing that we are made in the image of God is to understand that we make wrong choices, and rebel against God. But also that we find our help in God and can come back and become one in Christ if we only try to. This activity is one where you might know what it’s like to become whole again as a church. Please listen:
- If you have ever been really mad because something didn’t go the way you wanted it to, drop your arms
- If you have ever lied about something, even if it’s “No, I don’t have your Christmas presents under my bed.” Even little white lies, take a step back.
- If you have ever ignored someone who obviously needed help, like picking up someone’s books in the hallway, or a teacher struggling to open a door and didn’t help, turn around
- If you have ever hurt someone’s feelings, like making fun of them, or putting them down, take a step forward.
- If you have ever done something you’ve been ashamed of, shut your eyes.
- If you have ever made someone feel good about themselves, take a step backward.
- If you have ever offered help to someone who didn’t ask for it, turn around.
- If you have ever been honest, even if you got in trouble for it, take a step forward
- If you have ever put someone else’s needs before your own, open your eyes.
- If you have ever forgiven someone, or been forgiven for doing something, put your arms around each other.
After activity questions:
How did this make you feel?
How did you feel when you were standing all alone?
How did you feel when you put your arms back around the people next to you and you were back in the group?
What does this activity show you about your identity, about who you are?
